The song that I chose to incorporate into my presentation was “Mother’s Little Helper” by The Rolling Stones, off their Aftermath (1966) album (UK edition only). The song tells the story of a mother in distress, with a husband, kids and tough job, so she turns to drugs for a sense of escapism from her stressful life. The song in particular mentions pill usage and how they act as “mother’s little helper”, as referenced by the container of pills sitting next to her bed. She is also shown complaining that “Things are different today,”, a line found in the lyrics to the actual song.
